The Story of Trail

The inspiration for the new colorful Trail pattern came from the dog’s perspective.

The newest Pomppa pattern was created by Helsinki-based illustrator Janine Rewell. Janine’s recognizable and bold style, combined with her animal-themed creations, perfectly matched Pomppa’s colorful and happy aesthetic, which naturally led to the start of this collaboration.

The idea behind the captivating pattern is based on a dog’s perspective: what a dog discovers when exploring their surroundings? How does a dive into the mossy forest floor feel like? Or what do they see when glancing up at a tree branch? How does a delicous stick taste, or how does a beautiful flower smell? These thoughts laid the groundwork for the first visions of the new pattern.

– A dog perceives the world not only through sight but also through smell; a dog’s scent world is equivalent to the visual world of us humans. The scent trail that weaves through the pattern floats all around, connecting the surrounding elements together, just like in a dog’s world, Rewell describes.

The pink “scent trail” connects the pattern’s elements together.

The pattern’s elements quickly found their shapes and places. – I wanted to create elements with rounded and dynamic shapes that best fit a dog’s rounded body. I also kept in mind that the pattern doesn’t have a specific orientation and it should be viewable from any angle, Rewell explains.

The collaboration resulted in an exciting new pattern called Trail, a design unlike anything previously seen in Pomppa’s 16-year history. The pattern is to be explored from every direction, as this colorful imaginary world is packed with interesting details. You might discover a little birdie up on a branch or a group of cute beetles.

The uniqueness of the pattern also lies in its versatility, as the placement of the elements varies in each coat, making every Trail product truly one of a kind!

The pattern was received well at the season’s launch and soon it can be seen on thousands of dogs around the world, bringing joy to the daily lives of dogs and their humans.

You can now find the Trail pattern in Jumppa, Kevyt, Perus and Toppa. Also, the pattern is available as a tube scarf. Be sure to also check out the new color Forest, which is a perfect match for Trail!
